The Surecolor P400 is the latest of three generations of essentially the same printer starting with the R1900, then R2000 and P400. These pigment ink printers are suited for graphics and general printing. The focus of these printers are vivid images and image details and nuances are not its' forte.
This printer features the use of Gloss optimizer to maintain a uniform gloss level across the image. It also has a matte black cartridge ready to be used without any cartridge switching when changing to matte papers.
In late 2016, we introduced a second generation set of pigment inks the PCHG2 featuring an odd colored yellow ink just like the OEM Epson yellow. These new pigment inks dramatically improve the image quality, gloss level and clog performance over the previous Image Specialists inkset.
Further refinement came in an improved Gloss Optmizer and PhotoBlack and the inkset is at the optimum at this point.
Custom ICC profiles are not required but those wanting to extract the maximum performance of this printer and inkset will want to use them. The cost of the profiles is nothing. So why not? Despite the attractive cost the profiles are easily one of the highest quality to be found anywhere at any price. Click on rightmost tab for the profile downloads.
