August 2023
The Canon Pro-200 replaced the Pro-100 and it uses a different inkset from the Pro-100.
The only notable additions to the Pro-200 was the addition of a display panel and the ability to print 12x12 borderless media. Not beneficial changes was the smaller size leading to smaller waste ink pads and a less expensive construction using bent sheet metal for the printhead carriage. The Pro-100 used a very precise highly polished rod. The most significant aspect for the person wanting to refill is that Canon used very secure chip encryption and currently there is no ability to RESET the chip and have FULL ink levels after refilling. The printer can still be refilled and Canon provides the steps necessary to do for the user however after refilled, the user must keep track of approximately how many prints have been made and refill BEFORE the tanks runs out of ink. This is important since running the printer without ink can and will lead to printhead damage. So it is up to the user to remember approx prints have been done. For this requirement we HIGHLY RECOMMEND acquiring a device called a TALLY COUNTER. These are inexpensive and can be obtained on AMAZON, Ebay and even sports stores. One should keep this close to the printer and click off the amount of prints made. We recommend starting with a count of 30 and then opening the lid and refilling. Each time the lid is opened and closed the printer consumes about 0.4 ml of ink from EACH tank, whether or not it has been refilled. As a result, ALWAYS refill and top off ALL the tanks each time the lid is opened. If you determine that the 30 is too conservative, increase the count to a comfortable number before refilling is done. You will attempt to refill at the point the liquid reservoir has little or no ink. Never attempt to print until the printer produces streaks. By the time this is reached, you might have damaged the printhead. Each 13x19 print will require three clicks or equivalent to three 8x10s.
The next obstacle in the Pro-200 is the use completely opaque black tanks. The refiller is unable to conveniently check how much is left or consumed unless each tank is weighed. The alternative is to use clear tanks that the user can visually determine what is happening without resorting to a scale. For this reason we provide clear tanks in our kits. Since there are no aftermarket chips at this point, the user will need to transfer the chips from Canon tanks to the provided tanks. The process is simple but care must be exercised not to damage the chips during transfer.
Despite the above for which we have provided solutions, the Pro-200 actually will produce technically superior prints over the Pro-100. With the newest Ausgust 2023 inkset, will acutally outprint even the OEM inks in Image Quality in many images. However I feel that the Pro-100 on balance with the resetter available and superior build is the better choise IF you have a choice.
If you have not purchased a Pro-200 as yet, unless you require to print borderless 12x12. We recommend purchasing a good used Pro-100. With our SE inkset for the Pro-100 we have provided the improvements in IQ Canon touts in their Pro-200 and refilling is much more straightforward.
