All PGI-29 colors used in the PRO-1 are pigment inks, and our PGI-29 inks are pigment based to match. The set covers all twelve colors: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Photo Black, Photo Cyan, Photo Magenta, Red, Dark Gray, Gray, Light Gray, Chroma Optimizer and Matte Black.

Red is supplied as genuine Canon PGI-29R ink. Canon Red reproduces highly saturated and very dark reds best, so every PRO-1 kit and set ships with it.

Yes, once. Original PGI-29 cartridges need plastic removed from behind the chip area so replacement chips fit. Do this carefully. After that, a chip change takes seconds.

Fill with a syringe through a refill adapter, and always use one: without it, ink can go into the wrong chamber. In our PGI-29 Refill Syringe Pack, the 30 ml syringe pulled to its full stroke fills a cartridge in one pass, and the 10 ml syringe tops it off and clears air. A digital scale confirms the fill.

Before each fill, gently agitate the bottle or rotate it end over end a number of times so the pigment is evenly mixed.

There is no resetter for PGI-29 chips. Instead you fit a new one-time-use replacement chip each time you refill a cartridge.

Do not run the PRO-1 by overriding an empty chip. The printer keeps priming the head and sends a large amount of ink into the waste ink absorber, which is not user serviceable.

Chips are sold singly, as a 12-chip set, and as a 13-chip set with an extra Chroma Optimizer chip, since that tank is filled most often. The Premium Kit includes one chip for each color.

Chips are not interchangeable and are hard to tell apart, so each one ships in its own labeled bag. Keep the labels with the chips and handle one chip at a time.

Check the ink shade three times before you fill. A cartridge filled with the wrong color has to be emptied, and if it reaches the printer it takes many cleaning cycles to flush out.

Yes, with one caveat. We offer free custom ICC profiles for the PRO-1 made for our original PC29 ink set, covering papers from Red River, Canon, Kirkland and Staples.

They were made before the current Signature Edition inks, so treat them as a starting point if you are on the newer ink set.

Every profile is made in-house with Argyll CMS and an X-Rite i1Pro2 spectrophotometer. Use Relative Colorimetric rendering intent. The listing shows the paper setting to use in the Canon driver.

Original PGI-29 cartridges keep every Canon feature, including the light that confirms the cartridge is recognized and the optical out-of-ink sensor. That sensor protects the printer if a cartridge runs out while the chip still estimates ink is left.

Aftermarket bodies leave these features out, so we recommend refilling original Canon cartridges.

Almost certainly not. Most print problems on refilled Canon printers come from a cartridge, not the printhead.

Run a nozzle check to find the color at fault. A cleaning cycle or two clears most streaks. If one color stays weak, service or replace that cartridge.
